The 2008 Indiana State Fair Competition for Photography is almost here. This year I hope to enter 3 photos in the contest. I had such difficult time finding information on the event.

GENERAL EXHIBIT INFORMATION
1. Regular entry deadline - July 1 (postmarked - no metered mail.) Late entries July 2 - July 21 (postmarked - no metered mail), with an additional late entry processing charge of $25.00. Make check or money order payable to Indiana State Fair or include valid credit card information with signature.

2. Each exhibitor is required to pay an entry fee at the time of making entries. Use separate entry form for each department entered. A $30 entry fee must be paid for each department (not class) entered.
3. It is recommended entry form(s) be mailed by registered or certified mail for proof of mailing if entry form is not received by Entry Department.
4. Entries in the Home and Family Arts Department are limited to PRESENT RESIDENTSOF THE STATE OF INDIANA.
5. Open to all ages unless otherwise specified.
6. Exhibits must be made or prepared by the exhibitor and shown in his or her own name (except old quilts and antiques).
7. ALL EXHIBITS SHALL HAVE BEEN PRODUCED DURINGTHE PAST THREE YEARS AND NEVER BEFORE SHOWN (IN ANY DEPARTMENT) AT THE INDIANA STATE FAIR, EXCEPT ANTIQUES. DUPLICATE ITEMS SHOULD NOT BE ENTERED IN MULTIPLE SECTIONS. CHECK ANTIQUE DEPARTMENT TERMSANDCONDITIONS.
8. Each exhibitor may make a total of 35 entries in the Home & Family Arts Department. Follow section/class terms and conditions for number of entries per class.
9. By paying an additional entry fee of $30.00, an exhibitor will be eligible to enter an additional 30 exhibits in the department. ANEXHIBITOR INTHE HOME ANDFAMILYARTSDEPARTMENT ISLIMITEDTO A GRANDTOTALOF 65 EXHIBITS.
10. No parking tags are issued to Home and Family Arts Department exhibitors.
11. Exhibits for which there is no classification will not be accepted.
12. ANY ARTICLE WHICH ISNOT ENTERED INTHE PROPER SECTION WILLBE DISQUALIFIED. ANY DISQUALIFIED ITEM WHICH WASNOT DISPLAYEDINTHE 2007 FAIR MAYBE RE-ENTEREDTHISYEAR, except Antiques.
13. The large portion of the exhibit tag must be securely attached to each article before being brought to the Fair. The small portion of the exhibit tag serves as the exhibitor’s claim check when picking up exhibit and should be removed before coming. Exhibit tags will be mailed to exhibitor along with receipt and one day passes.
14. If there is more than one article in an exhibit, fasten all articles securely together before bringing to exhibit check-in.
15. An exhibit must contain only the number of pieces listed. Additional pieces will not be accepted.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS (Note - New total number entered)
1. This contest is open to all photographers. Up to 3 photographs may be entered, all in either the professional or non-professional division.
2. Pre-entry required (See general rules).
3. Any person who derives more than one-half of his/her income from photography shall enter the professional division.
4. Payment of entry fee entitles the photographer to submit 3 prints for judging, but does not guarantee that all 3 prints will be hung. No more than a total of 3 prints may be entered in photography even if an additional exhibitor entry is paid.
5. The official judges and/or the director or appointed representative will determine which prints will be hung.
6. No refunds will be made to unsuccessful entrants.
7. Prints not hung will be put in storage until close of Fair.
8. The 3 prints may be entered in the same or in separate Class numbers. EXAMPLE: If three prints are being entered in black and white professional category in the same class number, such as 114-PH-1. They must be shown on the entry form as 114-PH-1,114-PH-1 and 114-PH-1, one on each line.
9. It is the responsibility of the entrant to enter and list the correct Dept\Section\Class numbers on the entry form. Unless a quantity restriction is listed, an exhibitor may enter more than one item per class, but will be eligible to win only two (2) premiums in any one class.
11. The photograph itself, must be a minimum of 8" x 10" and a maximum of 16" x 20". Each photo entry must be permanently mounted on a solid photographic mount board, or foamcore. Board must be exactly 16" x 20". Masonite, corrugated cardboard or thin poster board is not acceptable. Overall presentation is taken into consideration in judging. (Except Polaroid Transfer)
12. Overlay mats are acceptable as long as the total thickness of exhibits is no more than 3/16". Overlay mats must be attached on all 4 sides. Exhibitors should be aware that double faced tape, or a thin layer of spray glue willnot hold up in high heat and humidity.
13. The unmatted portion of the print shall not be less than 7" x 9" or 63 square inches, in oneimage, unless entered in creative or experimental.
14. ENTRIES NOT MEETING SPECIFICATIONS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED
15. Each photo entry must have its exhibitor tag securely attached on the back of each exhibit in the upper left hand corner as you face the back of the photo. Detach the claim check. DO NOT FOLDNAME UNDER EVENTHOUGH IT SAYSTO. Exhibitor’s identification and title of picture (if titled) must appear above or below the exhibitor’s tag. Titles, if "catchy" may enhance the score. Some judges prefer not to have titles read.
16. Name, previous awards, seals, ribbons or any other identification may not appear on the front of the mount.
17. Prints in frames, under glass, plastic covers or shrink wrap are not acceptable. No hangers, rough, raised or sticky substance on the back or front of prints.
18. If a print is made completely by the exhibitor from exposure to completed exhibit, it may be so stated on back of the print.
19. All prints must be made from negatives, transparencies, or digital images exposed after June 2005.
20. Prints previously displayed at the Indiana State Fair may not be entered again.
21. No 2 prints shall be of the same subject matter unless treatment is such as to produce two entirely different photos.
22. Some photo entries will be verbally critiqued by the judges on the last Sunday of the Fair. To participate, exhibitors must fill out a request form and attend the Critique. Request forms are available in the photography area anytime from opening day through the last Saturday of the Fair before 6:00 pm. A release form must be filled out at the critique.
23. The Administration of the Home and Family Arts department reserves the right to disqualify prints they deem to be in poor taste, or to remove after hung, if public complaints arise.
24. Photographer must have signed model(s) release with person or people in photo.
25. All possible care will be taken to safeguard the exhibits, but no responsibility will be assumed by the Indiana State Fair Management for any loss or damage in transit or while in our possession.
26. In the event of conflict between general and specific terms and conditions, the latter will govern.
27. Agreement to all terms and conditions here stated is understood when the exhibitor submits his/her entries.
28. The original exposure and image must be that of the exhibitor. Copies of photographs or photographs taken during an instructional class will not be allowed.
29. On a 3" x 5" card print location of picture and any other pertinent information. Use one card for each photo. This will help answer the many questions we receive. Cards will be filled alphabetically. Put Photographer’s name at top. Do not attach to back of prints.
30. No picture taken of photos on display.

JUDGING PROCEDURE
A 3-person panel composed of professional photographers will judge all photographs in each classification. The judges will have the authority to decide any question not specifically covered by these terms and conditions and their decision will be final. Judges will not reclassify prints.

Impact, center of interest, composition, technique, print quality, presentation, story telling, universal appeal, and does it create a feeling or emotion.

PHOTOS FOR SALE:
Photographers wishing to have their photographs sold must fill out a Consignment Sale Agreement. You must mark on your entry form the items you wish to sell. A Consignment Sale Agreement will be sent to you with your entry tags or can be completed at check-in.
